What is Math in Action?

 

Math in Action is a collection of math enrichment program available for Norman Rockwell Elementary students.

 

Program for 2010-2011:

MIA Classes, MIA Online ProgramMath Challenge, and MIA Game Time .

 

MIA Class is an extra-curricular class that meet weekly afterschool. The class provides activities for students to sharpen their math skills in group settings.

 

MIA Online is an excellent way for students to strengthen their math skills at their own pace anytime, anyplace where they have internet access.

 

Math Challenge is a series of math challenges published every other weeks in the Bugle and in this website.

 

MIA Game Time is a series of game sessions available during lunch for grade K-4 in Fall/Winter.

ASSEMBLY AWARD - June 15, 2010

Honoring Rockwell Mathletes

 

Outstanding Math in Action Online Participants

We are honoring 30 students who has been practicing their math skills on their own outside what's required by their teachers. These students were actively solving math problems online through IXL Math program. These are the outstanding mathletes:

Grade K: Sayan B, Benjamin Y, Kaumudi N, Maximilian W, Amogh K*, Brooke C, Haadi Q, Mia M.

Grade 1: Kavya K, Daniel P, Ethan F, Asma M, Arvind T, Amol V, Fynn F, Phoebe J, Saahya T, Nishant B*, Tristan C, and Orion G.

Grade 2: Keshav K, Kaan I, Rabeeya A, Ryan B*

Grade 3: Hafsa M*

Online Math League Top Scorers

Thirty nine students (grade 2-6) took the challenge of Online Math League, where they competed online with other schools nationally. Fourteen of them will be honored for scoring on the top 25% in their grade level at their school. Maximum possible score is 45. These are the OML 2009-2010 medal recipients:

Out of one hundred fourty seven students who have participated in the 2009-2010 Math Challenge, fourty eight students completed at least 10 sets of math challenges.

MIA ONLINE

Attention to all MIA Online students: your IXL subcription will be expired on September 7, 2010. However, the prize program will end on June 4 (volunteers of MIA Online program will only be checking your points until June 4). Therefore, if you are currently working on reaching a certain milestone, you need to complete it by June 4 in order to get a prize.

MATH IS COOL (4th grade) - APRIL 16, 2010 

Congratulation to our 4th Grade Math Team who performed an awesome job at the Math is Cool competition! There were about 200 fourth graders attending from 23 different schools. Rockwell got second place in Division IB. In addition, Ian H and Caitlin S also took home the fourth place and fifth place trophies. Great job!
